This webinar is designed for mental health professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of secondary traumatic stress. Participants will gain the ability to diagnose these phenomena and recognize their profound emotional and psychological impacts.
Through exploring theoretical approaches learners will understand the interconnectedness of family dynamics and the influence of PTSD. The course equips participants with evidence-based clinical techniques tailored for those affected by others’ trauma. Participants will also learn to implement prevention and management strategies by recognizing symptoms and risk factors.
Through culturally sensitive assessment and intervention strategies, participants will be prepared to address the unique challenges faced by family members of survivors. The course includes case studies and group discussions, ensuring learners can apply these techniques effectively.
Ultimately, this course empowers mental health professionals to maintain their well-being while providing compassionate and informed care to those affected by trauma.

What Makes This Training Relevant?
Mental health professionals are not immune to the impact of the work they do. Whether you’re early in your career or have spent decades in the field, regularly sitting with clients through trauma, grief, crisis, and pain can take a toll.
The signs of secondary traumatic stress (STS) can also be easy to miss — or mistaken for burnout, compassion fatigue, or simply being exhausted by the work. Understanding the difference matters. Recognizing what’s happening allows clinicians to respond earlier, protect their well-being, and continue doing meaningful work without sacrificing themselves in the process.
And you don’t have to wait until STS develops to address it. This training also focuses on prevention — helping newer clinicians build sustainable practices from the beginning, experienced clinicians recognize risks that can accumulate over time, and those who support clinical teams create environments that better protect the people doing this work.

Meet Your Presenter:
Dannie Doskocil, LCMHC, BC-TMH, CCTP is a Dannie Doskocil is a Licensed North Carolina Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, a Licensed K-12 School Counselor, and a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider with over two decades in practice. After obtaining her Master of Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Florida in 2001, she earned a second master’s in Clinical Social Work from the University of Central Florida in 2005, with specializations in addictions and social policy.
Dannie was a pioneer in the field of telemental health, establishing her virtual private practice in 2016 where she specializes in treating preteens, teens, and emerging adults with anxiety and trauma history. When the world shut down in 2020, she played a critical role in training school counselors and social workers in one of the largest U.S. school districts and authored their inaugural policy manual for virtual services. Her expertise has been showcased at national platforms like the 2017 National Conference on Addiction Disorders. As a “trainer of trainers,” she has been influential in shaping discussions around clinical assessments, trauma, and telehealth.
Dannie is an author and mother of a very sassy Hufflepuff. With a trauma-informed approach, Dannie remains committed to making mental health services accessible to everyone.
